If you take prescription medicines, it is best to take it with water. Drinking it with orange, apple or grapefruit juice may render the medicine useless. A report found that these juices decrease the absorption of the following medications:

- Allegra - allergy drug
- Cipro, Levofloxacin(Levaquin), Sporanox (Itraconazole) - anti-biotics
- Atenlolol, Celiprolol and Talinolol - beta-blockers
- Cyclosporine - transplant-rejection drug
- Etoposide - chemotherapy drug

It is best to check with your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

Very good to know. Cipro and Levaquin are widely prescribed and I bet a lot of people take them with juice!

Very good point. Alot of medications should not be taken with milk, or milk products as well. As you stated it is always best to take your medication with water, unless told to do otherwise.

Thanks for your comments. :) I used to take my vitamins with orange juice until I read that it blocks the absorption of some vitamins. Now, I only take it with water.

I take allegra and it specifies not to drink/eat grapefruit...not sure why only that citrus. It also says to not use antacids, two hours before or after as it affects absorption.
